ABOUT KFSE

KFSE works to eradicate extreme poverty in our Kiambu, and the larger global society. We do this by engaging with individuals, families and community-based groups, with the aim of supporting them to access mainstream anti-poverty programs.

KFSE believes that there is a clear link between discrimination and poverty. Because poor people are discriminated from accessing services - even health services that charge user-fees, they fall further into the cycle of poverty. Discriminated people have less confidence in demanding even what is rightfully theirs which only leads to further dispossession. As a result we have a very clear policy of inclusion. We do not believe in a hierarchy of rights, and we expect our partners to support full equality and non-discrimination for all persons.

We are also aware that the government has established social-support programs such as The Youth Enterprise Fund and The Women Enterprise Fund. Additionally many NGO’s in the country have anti-poverty programs, which focus on improving agriculture, access to mainstream financial institutions, and improvement of education among others.

There are however not many organizations with interventions focused at individuals and families in abject poverty. Often, interventions to these individuals and families will be in the form of short-term relief in the form of food, clothing or temporary shelter. For individuals and families to overcome their immediate and proximate cause of poverty, there is need to support them take that first step. KFSE focuses on providing support to individuals, families and communities to take the first step necessary to joining the mainstream anti-poverty programs.

To do this KFSE will engage in the following activities
